HBO’s hit fantasy TV series Game of Thrones is no stranger to gay romances between men (King Renly Baratheon and male lover knight Loras Tyrell were once lovers) but could the show be considering a lesbian intimacy as well?

In episode 9 of Game of Thrones’ sixth season, the display seemed to hint that a intimacy between Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen and Yara Greyjoy could be possible.

Yara, who has a claim to the Salt Throne, suggests that the two women form an alliance. Daenerys also refers to a marriage proposal that she recently received from Yara’s uncle, saying, “And I imagine your provide is free of any marriage demands?”

Yara replies with, “I never demand… but I’m up for anything, really.”

In a video reacting to the scene, the actress who plays Yara, Gemma Whelan, says that the two characters “like the cut of each other’s jib.”

Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys, adds that, “There’s a mild flirtation, which is exciting to say the least… get rid of [male love interest] Daario, and take on the ladies! Why not?”

And fans of the present have also taken to Twitter to voice their help for the two women.

Emilia Clarke has revealed she's happy about the bubbling chemistry between her nature Daenerys Taragaryen and Yara Greyjoy.

It appeared that the Mother of Dragons had met her match in Yara on Monday night's episode when when the Iron-born soldier visited Mereen to discuss an alliance with Daenerys.

They made plans, became allies and flirted outrageously with each other.

In a behind-the-scenes video posted by HBO, Clarke said: "There’s mild flirtation, which is exciting to tell the least. I signify, get rid of Daario bring on the ladies."

While there’s been plenty of lesbian and gay sex in Game of Thrones thus far, the display has yet to spot a central gay romance.
