Douching and Bottoming With IBS
My doctor met this request with raised eyebrows, explaining that bowel cancer was only common in men over 50 and, as I was less than half that age, that that would not be necessary. I also got a schooling on the "often-symptomless" symptoms of chlamydia and gonorrhoea and explained that considering the symptoms I did have were more "being stabbed repeatedly in the stomach" and less "mayonnaise in the pants", that these were also highly unlikely.
Nevertheless, I persisted, and got my complete sexual health screening.
Finally, the results came back - negative on all fronts. Yet, I was still walking around at a 90-degree angle, feeling fond my stomach was being torn out every time I stood up.
After three weeks of affecting my best Hans Moleman impersonation (see Simpsons ref.), three really unsuccessful bottoming experiences, sleepless nights and all-round discomfort, I took myself back to my doctor, slumped in his chair and begged him to help me.
14 blood tests later for the whole gamut of tummy-related tribulations (Chron’s, Coeliac etc.) and still nothing came up.

When it comes to bottoming – i.e. receptive anal sex – preparation is key. It can assist you feel more relaxed and spend less time worrying about accidents (in other words, poop). How much you prepare comes down to you and your own preference.
For some people, preparation might just be a shower. For others, it could be douching. Another alternative is switching your diet. Adding in foods that are bottom friendly (and taking out ones that aren't) can help you stay regular and prepared for sex.
Diet changes can be helpful if you’re bottoming regularly. As RuPaul says, if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready! Preparing with food can also have general health benefits, and it can help you shun some of the risks from douching (like damaging your microbiome).
Some people use diet and supplements instead of douching, while others use it to construct douching easier. Whatever you elect, here's our guide to eating for butt stuff.
What do I eat before bottoming?
To achieve optimal gut and butt health, just think of DADS:
- Dietary fibre

DADS applies to everyone, wheth
I took psyllium husk to help with bottoming, here’s what happened
If you’re no stranger to bottoming then you’ll know the feeling of douching and the fear that what you’ve done is never enough. That whole process can be quite stressful and there can be times, when you think ‘how much more can there actually be’. This is particularly true if you over douche, which means that you unlodged your lunch, which probably wouldn’t have come out for another 12-24 hours. But poop is like a genie, once it’s been disturbed, you can’t just stuff it back in, which could mean another 20 minutes of douching.
It’s very time consuming.
So when I heard that there were pills and supplements out there that can help with ensuring you stay and remain “ready” with little or no preparation I was intrigued. After all who doesn’t want a quick repair, right?
There are numerous products out there that are aimed at gay men… but they are, in reality quite expensive and require a regime which needs you to think of to take multiple pills a day at various times. That’s just way too much effort for my liking.
So I did s
