After nearly two decades in country music, Ty Herndon is ready to be honest with his fans: He's gay.
The country celestial body opens up about his past, present and future in an interview with Entertainment Tonight's Nischelle Turner that rivals ABC's state soap "Nashville" with its real-life drama. Herndon discussed everything from his former drug use, his failed marriages and his current relationship.
"I have an amazing relationship that I've been in for a fine number of years," Herndon tells ET in a new sit-down airing Thursday. "[I] love him very much and he loves me."
Married twice before, Herndon reveals that both of his ex-wives were "absolutely" aware of his sexuality.
"I had a lot of people around me that I trusted at a time and I was like,'Hey, you know this about me but the world doesn't. So I'm gonna need to notify on your services for a little while,'" he confessed. "It was unfortunate that I had to do that, but I felt that's what I had to do to have my career. Standing on some pretty reliable legs today, so I get to tell my truth today."

Country singer Ty Herndon told People he’s “an out, pleased and happy same-sex attracted man”, in an interview published today.
The 51-year-old musician said he’d struggled with how to publicly confront his sexuality for years, lying to many friends while coming out privately to proximate family members starting at the age of 20.
“I was 10, sitting in church and horrified that I might be a queer. Whatever that pos meant, I knew that I probably was one,” Herndon told People. “And I know there’s a lot of those kids still out there. Telling my story is an opportunity to help just one of them.”
Herndon said he believes acceptance of the LGBT community is growing within the land music industry, mentioning Kacey Musgraves’s tune Follow Your Arrow. Musgraves sings about self-acceptance in the Country Music Awards song of the year.
Herndon experienced radio success in the 1990s with songs such as Living in a Moment. Currently, Herndon is based in Nashville and touring with Jamie O’Neal and Andy Griggs with his album Lies I Told Myself. Herndon is the second country singer to come out to People in the past five years. In

Popular '90s country singer Ty Herndon has revealed that he's gay.
'Entertainment Tonight' leaked the news on their website seemingly by accident just hours before the television show was to make the official announcement. On Wednesday, the program teased that a twice-married country male would be coming out as male lover during Thursday night's show. A video thumbnail with the words "Country Celebrity Ty Herndon - I'm Gay" began appearing near the bottom many of the site's pages Thursday morning (Nov. 20).
A bit later in the time, ET posted their exclusive sit-down interview with the singer, in which he confirmed the rumors that have been swirling about his sexuality since the peak of his success in the '90s.
Herndon's biggest hits were his debut single 'What Mattered Most' (1995), 'Living in a Moment' (1996) and 'It Must Be Love' (1998). His most recent album is titled 'Lies I Told Myself,' and he says the biggest lie he told himself is "that I couldn't be gay in country music," adding, "I've dreamed about being in cou
