In a fresh interview, country celebrity T.J. Osborne has come out publicly as gay. The Brothers Osborne head vocalist has been out to his family and friends, but for the first time ever, he is exposing his truth to the world.
“I’m very comfortable being gay,” the 36-year-old player told Time magazine. “I find myself being guarded for not wanting to talk about something that I personally don’t have a problem with. That feels so strange.”
With this news, Osborne is now the only musician signed to a major country label who is publicly established to be gay.
“People will ask, ‘Why does this even need to be talked about?’ and personally, I concur with that,” he said. “But for me to demonstrate up at an awards show with a man would be jaw-dropping to people. It wouldn’t be like, ‘Oh, cool!”
“I don’t ponder I’m going to get run off the stage in Chicago,” Osborne added. “But in a rural town playing a county fair? I’m curious how this will go.”

Brothers Osborne won their first Grammy Sunday for the sibling duo’s song “Younger Me,” and that wasn’t the only first — it’s the first state song with an LGBTQ+ theme to win an award in the history of the ceremony.
“For those of you who do not know, this anthem was written really in response to me coming out,” said singer TJ Osborne, joined at the podium at the pre-telecast premiere ceremony by his brother, guitarist John Osborne.
“And I never thought I would be able to do music professionally because of my sexuality,” TJ Osborne continued. “And I certainly never reflection I would be here on this stage accepting a Grammy after having done something I felt like was going to be life-changing, potentially in a very negative way. And here I am tonight, not only accepting this Grammy award with my brother, who I treasure so much, but I’m here with a man that I love and who loves me back. I don’t know what I did to obtain so lucky.”

One of Brothers Osborne's first big hits was their 2016 single "21 Summer."
It was based on a real-life breakup that singer T.J. Osborne experienced, but he couldn't talk about the personal story behind the song: He hadn't yet arrive out as gay.
"No one knew that I was in a relationship and no one knew that I just got broke up with," he recently reflected in an interview with ABC Audio. "And I had a lot of inner turmoil and I was bitter that I couldn't talk to anyone."
But in February 2021, Osborne finally mutual his story. He came out in an expansive Time magazine feature, becoming the first openly gay country artist signed to a major label.
