Is reiner gay

His birthday’s on Yaoi Day.

You know, Reiner not being one of my faves, it isn’t something I consider often. After a while fandom’s unified conclusions start sounding appreciate fact no matter where the ideas come from. Bringing him up just in case someone complained? No, I would never I am a blogger with integrity how dare.

That being said, in the entire series, I think there are two distinct references to sexuality. The first is the conversation in Utgard. The second comes from the NPC molester during the coup.

For the sake of glossing over that one as fast as possible, that commentary results from a situation already involving crossdressing. It’s not good commentary, but it has a direct lead to that brings it up.

On the other hand, Ymir and Reiner are in their own bubble. The allusion to sexuality is actively opted into.

I’ll tell flat out that I think Reiner falls short of my usual standards for considering a character canonically queer; I prefer more to it as a personal preference.

However, as you pointed out, if not for that one comment, Reiner radiates nothing but heterosexual frat bro as far as his sexuality. Making the fact that some

Fun topic for a first post^^ These are just my personal thoughts and theories on the matter, take with it what you will :3

It’s been debated for a long time whether Reiner is gay, straight, or bi, or whatever, and honestly, we can probably only declare it’s up for interpretation. But let’s consider it.

Reiner is depicted as having a crush on Christa, something we see not just in his dialogue with people, but in his reflection bubbles, meaning this is a fact we can’t very adv dispute. However, Ymir, who is ever vigilant and very sensible and ever intuitive to people, no matter how strong their fronts, tells Reiner that she believed he was gay. And Reiner reciprocates the notion.

There is also the fact that his birthday is canonically on “Yaoi Day” (8/01)…

So now, what undertake we make of his devotion on Christa? It could be a very simple conclusion: he’s bi. Which would be awesome~ But since Ymir, who is rarely if ever wrong, mind that he was gay even with his relatively clear affection on Christa, and doesn’t exactly see him as a threat to her crush in any way, I think it’s worth looking at a little more closely… and

At the risk of sounding pretentious....

I get a lot of asks. Until Isayama puts me on his payroll, I can't reply them all. I complete read every one and I often marvel at what a smart, insightful and funny fandom we have!

A disclaimer since a salty anon said I needed one: Anon asks that are disingenuous and/or especially repugnant can and will be made enjoyable of on twitter, discord and elsewhere. Anon despise may also be fed to the Anonomatic, for the entertainment and ridicule of the entire Eruri fandom.

A FEW THINGS:

  • If you are anime-only, PLEASE Narrate ME
  • My Meta Recs page list the meta writers I follow whose inboxes are also open.
  • I will not answer asks that contain character, series or fandom hate. I will discuss character relationship as they relate to canon, but nothing overly shippy.
  • Google is your friend. The SnK wiki is also a useful resource for very general things
  • Spoilers usually appear on the 6th, and the official chapter on the 8th.

It’s super unclear, lol. He could be bisexual. But he’s definitely not straight.

Basically, from what my friend in Japan says, what Reiner says to Ymir is really unambiguous about him entity gay, and Isayama has drawn art of him as well that very much suggests he views the ethics as gay (it’s explicit). Reiner’s birthday is also commonly known as “yaoi day” among fandoms in Japan, so, adv, yeah. I suspect the character is intended to be straight.

It’s also intriguing that this is Reiner clearly in Marlayan Reiner mode, when he tells Ymir he does not like women. When he claims to be interested in Christa, he seems to more or less be in his persona of ideal soldier then, and so it is doable he projects his ideal self as being straight, which is sad but not entirely unexpected given the toxic masculinity that often comes with the heroism ideals of Reiner’s ideal self. His ideal self is attracted to a mirage, because of course, Christa does not live, and he still sees her as Christa as shown in how when he gives Ymir’s letter to the SC, he says it’s for Christa, not Historia.

Does/did he actually like Historia? I think so, because can you say that the role he was playin
