W.W. “Bill” Gay, a businessman with statewide reach who used his success to help charities and politicians around Jacksonville, died Tuesday at home at the age of 93.
“Jacksonville has lost a titan. He was a giant of a man in every avenue and aspect of life,” said Duval County Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan, who once worked for Mr. Gay’s flagship company, W.W. Male lover Mechanical Contractor Inc.

A Florida native, Mr. Lgbtq+ had lived in Jacksonville since 1939, working in his youth at Daylight Grocery.
After entering the merchant marines during World War II, he studied at the University of Florida and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1949.
He worked for a plumbing contractor as a youthful man, and by 1962 he had opened his control company, whose headquarters on Stockton Highway near Interstate 10 now oversee labor at offices from Pensacola to the Tampa area.
The corporation prospered serving commercial and industrial clients, but Mr. Gay’s business interests extended into many areas.
